One routine I'll use at some point in the chatter is sort of a pull-push technique. I'll say something like...
"So where are you from? ... Oh really? That's so awesome because I know a few people from there and they're some of my best friends! Actually one of those was my ex girlfriend, so now we can never be friends. You remind me too much of my ex!"
You'll want to say this in a playful way. Can you recognize why this works so effectively?
