Vacationing With So Much To Do and See In Key West, Florida

By Peter Estenoz

We are having such a wonderful time, we just wish you were here! I know this is the corniest line you have ever seen on a postcard, but its so true, and I had so much to tell you, that a postcard just doesn't have the space to write it, so I'm sitting here on a beach towel, underneath the palms here on the beach, in Key West, Florida, yep, soaking up the rays, and writing you a letter of the things we're doing on our vacation.

As soon as we got checked in, we put on our comfortable clothes and shoes, to explore! So much to see, and yes, we did some souvenir shopping down on Duval Street, in between going into Sloppy Joe's, Captain Tony's, Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, and we found Pat Croce's Rum Barrel right off Duval Street. We stopped for a late lunch at the Harborview Cafe, a great waterfront restaurant at the Pier House Resort. We saw a lot of the fishing charter boats and catamarans while we ate, then we headed over to enjoy the sunset festivities of world famous Mallory Square! There are so many talented street performers, and we enjoyed the show of Cat Man, with the tricks his cats do, amazing! I can't even get my cat to come when I call it, all I get from it is a "meow!" We saw the most gorgeous sunset, and we're looking forward to doing the same thing tomorrow, as we heard that all the sunsets are spectacular and different every day! Tomorrow we're planning a fishing charter, the next day maybe a snorkeling trip over to the reef! Our concierge told us, that all we have to do is show up, don't have to bring a thing, and they even provide lunch, and drinks! We want to go on one of those romantic sunset sails! Everything is so reasonably priced within our budget!

We have time while we're on the island to visit the many museums and tours that are offered. We are going to visit Hemingway's House, and see the six toed cats, explore the grounds where Ernest Hemingway wrote some of his novels. Right across the street from there is the Lighthouse Museum, might even venture up 88 steps to see the view, 88 steps up and 88 steps down! We want to go also to Mel Fisher's Museum, and see the treasures he discovered from the shipwrecked Atocha. Lets see the Southernmost House Museum, which is also a guest house, the Ship Wrecker's Historium, to hear them yell "Wreck Ashore!" in order to salvage the supplies from shipwrecks. We also want to go to the Key West Butterfly Conservatory, on Duval Street. We heard too that the "Old Town Trolley" tour is great, and very informative about the whole island! We want to go over to the Fort Jefferson National Park, which is a day trip to the Dry Tortuga's!

Oh this place is so beautiful, its so relaxing, there is a nice warm breeze coming off the water today, very peaceful, there are a few sunbathers out today, soaking up the rays. I just noticed something else, aw how, very special, not far from where I'm at, a group of people just walked out to the beach, and here comes the bride in white! What a wonderful idea, a wedding, a beach side wedding! yep, there's the groom, the bridal party, here comes the bride with her escort, what more could you want, a quiet peaceful wedding on the beach, very intimate, and there is the photographer taking photos and the videographer capturing this wonderfully special moment! Its as if they are the only people on earth, with such a magnificent backdrop, blue skies, white sandy beach, getting married on the beach, listening to the sound of the waves lapping the shore! This has truly made this trip to Key West memorable, I'm going to have to tell everyone about this! To be able to combine the wedding and honeymoon in one destination, what a terrific idea! I bet they will go out to one of those really nice restaurants afterward for a celebration dinner! I would think maybe Michael's, or A & B Lobster House, or the Commodore Restaurant, or even Louie's Backyard, and, for dessert, definitely Key Lime Pie!

Now I can truly relax, with the breeze off the water, I'm going to sign off on this letter, roll over and work on my tan, I know I'll drift off to sleep and dream of this wonderful place called paradise, Key West, Florida. I'll end this letter to you today, send you some photos too, so you can see what I've been writing about. Take care and we'll see you again soon!
