Back to Basics: Christian Marriage

By Jay Franklin

Just what is a Christian Marriage? "We are generally confessed Christians that have chose to enter into marriage." Is there a great deal more to actually explain married life? This whole webpage is going to be dedicated to the undeniable fact that Christian marriage is really completely different. It is very important to read God's Word that people may better see the foundation of holy matrimony as He fashioned it. I am convinced that at least one reason we are unsuccessful inside of married life is simply because many of us do not have The Lord's vision for it.

Let's take a look at Ephesians 2:21-32 in responding to the fundamental topic previously mentioned. Ephesians 5:21-32 (Today's New International Version) Advice designed for Christian Homes 21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. 22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, people have never hated their own bodies, but they feed and care for them, just as Christ does the church- 30 for we are members of his body. 31 "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." 32 This is a profound mystery-but I am talking about Christ and the church.

This specific Scripture gives a simple commandment towards the Christian Marriage: Wives: Submit to your own husband. Husbands: Love your wives just as Jesus loved the church. I found it intriguing that God set simply no conditions regarding this commandment for both mate. It is very important to remember that we'll each be held accountable for each of our individual actions.

Not to defend the wives even the least bit, but unfortunately I believe one reason why some women have an issue with submission stems from the truth that a number of us men do not love as Jesus. None among us will always be successful at satisfying this Christian Marriage responsibility, but it surely ought to be a target we try to attain each day. It is among the essential unique aspects versus a "worldly marriage".

Challenge: Verbally convey to your wife or husband that you would like to use the following full week paying much closer focus on living up to your God-given obligation. Keep your own journal with significant events intended for conversation at the end of the week.
