Though wooden urns used to be simple, yet elegant, boxes, times have changed. Today, it is possible to choose from many unique styles. As more individuals choose cremation, their resting place options have indeed increased.

The most common decision to make concerning a memorial urn is the type of wood. Woods featured often include rosewood, oak, walnut, cherry, redwood, and maple. In addition, the stain used to finish these woods varies from very light to very dark. Anyone who loves a particular finish can easily find their favorite.

Some of the boxes feature intricate hand carving. Their edges and corners are precise and well made, rivaling the appearance of fine furniture. These boxes will become display pieces, so the artistry must be wonderful.

For those wishing to honor a life of service to country, a wooden box might be decorated with an appropriate medallion of a particular armed force. Each service branch has a specific emblem. This symbol may be flanked by a photograph of a man or woman in their uniform.
