Our Society And Depression

By John Benson

Depression can affect anyone whether men or women. The usual culprits of depression are death, accidents, family break-ups, relationship problems and so many more. Post-partum depression is also on the rise mostly because women today are now willing to get help for this. The fact that men is a little bit hesitant to ask for advice and help for depression means the statistics show more women than men who are afflicted with the said condition. This page will teach you a thing or two about depression.

First, depression chooses no particular age or gender. Teenagers can have it or even old people. You have to learn how to spot depression very early on. The usual signs are silence, low energy, irritability without due cause, low self-esteem and avoidance of personal interaction. Be watchful for these things since depression can really creep in on you. You should be very observant about these in teens and pre-teens.

Number two, know that people who are depressed needs help so they can recover. Most of the time depressed people will not admit that they are depressed. Although people do get sad one time or another it is a cause for worry if a person seems to be aloof most of the time and does seem to be deviating from his or her normal activities and routine. It is best that you give some quality time to depressed people and ask them how you can be of help to them in their daily routine. Depressed people do get cheered up a bit when you spend time with them.

Last, better remember that depression is a progressive thing which means you need to act fast and nip it at the bud. Friends and family who are showing signs of depression need your help. You need to realize that they can get deeper into their depression and may have a hard time recovering their old normal self if they do not get help at the onset. So better get them checked by a psychiatrist and a medical doctor too since they may have a disease causing hormonal imbalance which may be causing the depressed state.

You have just read some basic things about depression. Never underestimate depression since it can really alter the life of a person and the people who love him or her.
